WALNUT DAVENPORT DESK, LAPTOP TABLE, FRENCH POLISHED, VICTORIAN c130yrs OLD
A walnut writing desk, computer desk with a black leathered sloped lid that has useful storage underneath and two brass handled drawers above.
Below there is a wonderfully patina-ed cupboard, with brass pull handle & a removable internal shelf. Known as a Davenport desk these are great to use and/or have as a display item.
This davenport sits on four pot castors and which roll well, but not easily when vertical, due to the weight of this item.
It's super solid and has lasted 130yrs+ for a reason. Unusually both the cupboard & the lid are supplied with keys and working locks, keep those laptops & precious documents locked away after you've worked in style.
Price includes UK mainland delivery but major discounts available for collection. Please do get in touch to arrange.
Attention those with limited space, this pretty little desk has clean lines, is great to look at but also to work at.
The knee height to the sloping top is a good 67cm and the deep locking cupboard ( 58cm deep ) will easily accommodate specialist IT items, Laptop computer cables etc. Especially those best kept locked away.
Originally designed for Victorian ladies & gents to write their letters at, whoever designed this had the 21st Century in mind.
It's not as "busy" as some of the desks you see with burr walnut & lots of turned wood.
The simple drawers are useful. The cupboard space ( rather than a series of little drawers ) is a boon for modern storage.
What you get is wonderfully aged wood with a fabulous patina & a great under lid secure storage space.

Great. Structurally robust, cosmetically there are some dings and dents of time but nothing so serious we've taken a note of it. French polished to a deep shine in our workshop this is fabulous to look at. Unusually both the cupboard & the lid are supplied with keys and working locks. The leather on the desk top is firmly fixed but has 1mm border visual ripple on the corner and edges due to time. The brass handles on the drawers are original and in good condition and these run smoothly. The cupboard door is secure with no wobbles but the brass pull handle is a later replacement & whilst old isn't original. Underneath the castors roll well & are securely fixed but ( not visible when standing ) one of the walnut cups the castors sit in has lost part of it's circumference - orientated internally so not visible when in use. ( All of these points can be seen clearly in the pictures & more pictures are available on request)
From the era of empire this is c130 years old and after our restoration is ready to last another 130 years.
Antique dealers would say :
A late Victorian walnut davenport, two drawers above a hinged slope flanked with one cupboard door.
